Joshua Russell, CPA, CVA, CFE – Partner
Joshua Russell and his wife Ashlee are originally from Topeka, Kansas, and moved to Florence, Alabama, in late December 2015. They have one daughter, Piper, who was born in 2017. Josh graduated from Washburn University in 2013 with a B.B.A. degree, completing both accounting and finance education paths. He began working in the accounting field in 2012. He has experience as a staff accountant with cash, accounts payable, unclaimed property, and withholding tax from working for a private company in KS and as an investment accountant working for the State of Kansas Retirement System. He received his CPA certificate from the State of Alabama in 2016, his CFE certificate in September 2018, and his CVA certificate in 2023.
He serves/has served on various nonprofit boards and committees in the community/nationally as well as the ASCPA/AICPA. He is a graduate of the 2016-2017 Shoals Leadership program through the Shoals Chamber of Commerce and a 2020 graduate of the AICPA Leadership Academy program.
His primary duties consist of tax return preparation, project management, consulting, financial statements, and assisting with attestation services.
Roger Williams, CPA, CVA – Partner
Roger Williams graduated from Deshler High School and Birmingham Southern College. After graduation, he began working as an Audit Associate for a large regional CPA firm in Birmingham, Alabama. He worked there for over eight years, progressing to be an Audit Manager within the firm. His primary responsibilities were to deliver high-quality audit and assurance services to an expansive portfolio of clients.
Before moving back to the Shoals in 2018 to work for Patterson Prince and Associates, he was recognized as a “2017 Rising Star of Accounting” by the Birmingham Business Journal. He is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is an executive board member of the Shoals Chamber of Commerce and Shoals Habitat for Humanities, serving as the finance chair. He is the board President of Alabama Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
Other than serving on boards, he also participates in several community outreach programs. In 2023, he was voted Big Brother of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Shoals. In 2024, he was recognized as the Businessman of the Year by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He has also participated and graduated from the State of Alabama Leadership Initiative Program (ALI) and Shoals Leadership Class.
He is married to Briana Williams, and they have a daughter named Zoey and a son named Connor.
His primary duties consist of attestation services, financial statements, tax return preparation, project management, and consulting.
Lisa Patterson, CPA
Lisa Patterson graduated from Central High School in 1978 and the University of North Alabama in 1982. She is a local Certified Public Accountant and continues to work seasonally with Patterson Prince.
She holds a B.S. Degree in Accounting from UNA and a CPA certificate from Alabama. In 1993, UNA Alumni Association named her Alumna of the Year. In 1998, the Shoals Chamber of Commerce named her Small Business Person of the Year; in 1999, The State of Alabama Small Business Administration named her Accountant Advocate of the Year. She was named the 2017 Shoals Citizen of the Year.
In 2001, she served the Shoals community as the Chairman of the Shoals Chamber of Commerce. In October 2014, she was appointed by Gov. Robert Bentley to represent North Alabama on the Alabama Small Business Committee. She is past President of the UNA Alumni association. She currently serves on the boards of the following nonprofit organizations: Riverhill School Foundation and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She formerly served on the boards of Shoals Entrepreneurial Center and Shoals Scholar Dollar Foundation, Inc. She is a member of the Florence Rotary Club, UNA Presidents Cabinet, UNA College of Business Advisory Council, and North Alabama Chapter of CPAs. She is a 1993 graduate of Leadership Shoals and a 2008 graduate of Leadership Alabama.
She is a member of Cross Point Church of Christ. She is married to Jeff Patterson. They have two daughters, Shannon and Shelby, and two grandchildren.
Rita Prince, CPA
Rita M. Prince graduated from Belgreen High School in 1976 and the University of Northern Alabama in 1983 with a B.S. Degree in Accounting. She became a CPA and received her CPA Certificate and Alabama License in 1991. After graduation, she started her career working as a corporate accountant for a private corporation in the Shoals area. In 1987, she began working in public accounting for a local CPA firm. She began working with Lisa C. Patterson, CPA, in 1992 and became a partner in 1995, and Patterson, Prince, and Associates, P.C. was formed. She continues to work seasonally with Patterson Prince.
She is an active member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Alabama Society of CPAs and a member of the Nominating Committee for the Alabama Society of CPAs. She has served as the president and treasurer of the North Alabama Chapter of CPA. She serves on the Advisory Council for the UNA School of Accounting and the board for The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. She was a member of the Scholarship Selection Committee for the Belgreen Alumni Association and served as an advisor for the Franklin County Business Education department. She is a charter member of the Shoals Business Network International (BNI) and was their treasurer and has served on various committees for BNI. She is also a member of the Shoals Chamber of Commerce and has served on numerous committees within the chamber. She is a 1995 graduate of Leadership Shoals.
Rita has always been active in her community and believes it is essential to give back to the community and support those who were instrumental in her education. Also important to her are her church and her family. She is a member of Barton First Baptist Church, serving on the finance committee, teaching ladies Bible study, and being a leader for the Women’s Ministry. She is married to Danny Prince. They have two children: Mandy Prince Barksdale, CPA, a graduate of Auburn University, and Kyle Prince, a graduate of the University of North Alabama.
Jeff Brewton, CPA, CFE
Jeff Brewton is originally from Baldwin County, Alabama but moved here to attend the University of North Alabama. There, he met his wife, Brittany. They have one daughter, Riley, and one son, Cooper. Jeff graduated from the University of North Alabama with a B.B.A. degree in Accounting for undergrad and a Master of Accountancy for graduate school. He began working as an accountant in 2014 and worked as a Controller before joining Patterson, Prince, and Associates.
While working in the industry, Jeff focused primarily on manufacturing environments with an emphasis on managerial and cost accounting. He received his CPA certificate from the State of Alabama in 2021.
His primary duties consist of tax return preparation, sales tax returns, and assisting with attestation services.
Adam "Brett" Carpenter
Brett Carpenter has over a decade of experience in Tax, Audit, Risk-Management, Internal Audit and Compliance. Brett is a graduate of Muscle Shoals High School, earning his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Alabama, and Master of Accountancy from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).
During his time at Alabama and Ole Miss, Brett was an undergraduate research assistant within the Culverhouse College of Business, a four-year member of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band, and a member of Beta Alpha Psi National Honor Society.
Brett enjoys spending time with his silver labrador retriever, attending Alabama and Ole Miss athletic events, and playing pickleball. He is a proud member of the Friends of the Million Dollar Band, Alabama Alumni Association, and Ole Miss Alumni Association.
His primary duties include individual tax returns, tax planning, corporate tax returns, and bookkeeping.
Lori Malone
Originally from Louisiana, Lori Starks Malone graduated from Richland Christian Academy. Alabama became her home in 1997. She received a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of North Alabama, where she was the president of the Accounting Club, Alpha Chi. She earned a 4.0 GPA in all courses.
Lori is married to Dr. Keith D. Malone, Professor of Economics and Finance at the University of North Alabama. Together, they have six children: Jake, Jordan, Canaan, Lillian, Madeline, and Marianne. She enjoys camping and spending time with her grandchildren!
She is active with Shoals Scholar Dollars. She attends Hope Church in Muscle Shoals. She is a member of the ASCPA and a 2010 Shoals Leadership graduate. Lori has been employed with Patterson, Prince, and Associates since 2008.
Her duties include monthly client engagement write-ups, financial statements, gift and not-for-profit tax returns.
Carolyn Smith
Carolyn Smith is a Florence native and a graduate of Florence High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science in International Economics and Spanish from the University of Kentucky in 2020, then returned to the Shoals to complete accounting coursework at the University of North Alabama.
Carolyn joined Patterson, Prince & Associates as a tax season intern in 2021 and now serves as the payroll supervisor, managing projects such as live payroll processing and quarterly payroll tax returns. Her other responsibilities include personal tax returns, corporate tax returns, and year-end bookkeeping.
She is a 2024 Leadership Shoals graduate, a member of First Presbyterian Church, a Kappa Delta alumna, and enjoys playing on a Shoals USTA tennis team.
Wilson Williams
Wilson Williams is originally from Savannah, Tennessee, but moved to Florence in 2018 to attend the University of North Alabama. He graduated with a B.B.A. degree in Accounting in 2022 and went on to earn his Master of Accountancy in 2025. Wilson joined Patterson, Prince, and Associates as an intern in January 2024 and came on full-time in July 2024.
His primary duties consist of monthly bookkeeping, tax return preparation, and assisting with attestation services.
Matthew King
Born in Maryland, Matt King moved down to Killen in 2017 and graduated from Brooks High School in 2021. He then attended the University of North Alabama and graduated magna cum laude in 2025 with a double major in Accounting and Finance. Currently, he is pursuing his Master of Accountancy at the University of North Alabama and is planning to achieve his CPA license.
His primary responsibilities include preparing individual tax returns, sales tax, and bookkeeping.
Lindi Robertson
Lindi Robertson is a Shoals area native. She has four children and is a member of the Open-Door Fellowship. Lindi joined Patterson Prince and Associates in 2016.
Lindi’s primary duties include payroll processing and payroll tax payments.
Jennifer Reding
A native of Florence, Jennifer graduated from Bradshaw High School in 1998 and earned a Bachelor's of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from The University of North Alabama in 2002 where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She is a member of Church of The Highlands.
Jennifer is married to Wes Reding and have a son named Tyler and a daughter named Darby.
Jennifer is the Office Administrator.
